Description :

Under the direct supervision of the Resource Management Officer and under the general guidance of Chief of Mission, the receptionist will be responsible for performing reception and secretarial tasks for the IOM Gambia mission.


  • Answer the telephone hotline, provide support to people who call, and transfer calls in situations where unable to assist
  • Receive applicants and visitors in the office and direct as appropriate
  • Provide initial information to visitor or callers
  • Relay messages to colleagues in the IOM office
  • Attend to the preparation of meetings which are held in the office, including organizing conferences and visits as required
  • Organize the mission’s filing system in accordance with IOM general guidelines
  •  Receive, register, sort and prepare mail for the office
  • Pick and drop off post from the post office
  • Assist with translation if required
  • Assist at the airport on the departure or arrival of movements, if required.
  • Other duties, within the incumbent’s capabilities, as may be assigned by the RMO and COM.


  • Certificate in secretarial or administrative services, with a degree in business administration or similar courses an advantage
  • At least two years of experience in receptionist or secretarial services or related field
  • An equivalent combination of related educational and professional experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of information technology and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, and SharePoint;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of internet and telephone services / VOIP.
  • Must have social skills for dealing with vulnerable migrants and ministry officials and reresentatives


Fluency in English and local language is a requirement.
